The small little estate village of Daylesford is located 4 miles East of Stow on the Wold, at the gates of Daylesford House (not open to the public) In the village there is also a small but elaborate Victorian Church. The estate was originally acquired by Warren Hastings, in 1788. Warren Hastings was the Governor-General of India the house was remodelled based on the grand house he had built at Alipore in India & filled with classical & Indian decoration. Hastings was born in nearby Churchill & had also hoped to buy back the estate which his family had owned during the medieval period. The building is almost entirely classical, with the exception of the Muslim Dome, surrounded by dense woodland it creates the perfect secluded escape for its current owners. Sir Anthony and Lady Bamford, who have extensive shares in JCB (excavator company) & Lady Bamford is most well-known for founding 'Daylesford Organic' Organic'. Lady Bamford is an advocate for holistic & healthy living, recognising the vision of organic farming & artisan skills.  For almost 40 years Daylesford has been at the forefront of sustainable farming. Located just outside the main village you will find an unrivalled shopping experience, with fresh food, beauty & homeware products. Why not have lunch in the restaurant, book yourself in for a beauty treatment or even buy some goodies to take home for your friends & family. If you are staying in the area longer, why not book onto one of Daylesford's Cookery Classes & pick up some tips.
