Located within easy walking distance from Stow on the Wold, Broadwell 1.5 miles North East, is a beautiful village set around a wide village green. The village green is overlooked by a collection of well spaced cottages & the hospitable Fox Inn, part of the 'Donnington Ales' group. The church, shaded by trees, is located at the top end of the village next to a gorgeous manor house. The church has an impressive number of 'table tombs' along with a monument of Herbert Weston & his wife, kneeling in prayer.

The Monarchs Way footpath, leads from Stow on the Wold to Broadwell. Said to be the route used by King Charles II trying to avoid capture, this narrow track opens up nearest Stow on the Wold, providing commanding views of open countryside. You will also pass by 'The Wells' dating back to the 1500s, where the villagers would collect their drinking water, although be warned, we would not recommend drinking it in present day! As you may see there are signs for 'no bathing'  & 'no car washing', however the wells provide the perfect habitat for frogs! There is a well known ghost story associated with this section of the Monarch Way. At twilight, it is said that those walking along the path have seen an elderly woman, in period dress, carrying an umbrella. She is making good pace for someone of extended years & is always viewed from behind. However ramblers & walkers are confounded as the track is so narrow, when they approach her, wishing to pass & say 'excuse me' she promptly disappears. Where she is heading or what her fate may have been we will never know but just watch out for her as you make your way to or from Broadwell!
