Why do you think people should visit the Cotswolds?

The area is simply stunning all year round, if you want a feel for typical English countryside, to escape for a while from the ‘big smoke’ the Cotswolds is so easy to reach from London & Oxford it makes a fantastic day trip, a time to relax and unwind.

What is your favourite Cotswold location & Why?

Hmmmm, this is a hard question to answer as there are just so many! I would have to say I love the views, the sense of space from locations such as Rollright Stones or the top of Broadway Tower and Dover’s Hill. You can be in the hustle and bustle of a market town and a few minutes away from an outstanding view, and I just love walking my dog Storm and admiring the scenery

What is your favourite Cotswold season?

I love Spring, seeing farmers sowing crops, the hedgerows full of wildlife, hares in the fields and the Cotswolds gardens coming to life, the countryside bursts into colour with wild Blue Bells and snow drops, Lambs bleating in the fields ,washing blowing on the line & villagers out and about, shaking off the winter months.

What is the most memorable thing that has happened on one of your tours?

I have a few but one of my favourites….After taking a detour to avoid some traffic (the advantage of being a local and knowing the back roads) we encountered a small track full of pheasants which had escaped from one of the fields. Hundreds and hundreds of them darting from left to right, needless to say this ‘short cut’ took a little longer than expected!

What is it you love about living in the Cotswolds?

I love village life and exploring the area which never fails to astound me. I always notice something new, people ask if you get ‘used to’ the area but there are still moments when the Cotswolds takes my breath away. There is a real sense of history at every turn, and I just love being a part of it.

Why do you think people should visit the Cotswolds?

The Cotswolds is steeped in history, myths and legends and is renowned for its beautiful ‘chocolate box’ style cottages, which are unique to this area, as you walk through the village streets you get a true sense of what it must have been like hundreds of years ago, photos just don’t do it justice.

What is your favourite Cotswold location & Why?

The remote, hill side village of Snowshill. Because you really feel as though you’re stepping back in time. The village is just beautiful with the cottages huddled around the Church, no wonder King Henry VIII gifted this to his wife, luckily my wife (Lucy) didn’t have such high expectations!

What is your favourite Cotswold season?

Well this is tricky, I like every season and for different reasons, Spring because it promises new life, birds busy making nests and the garden waking up from the winter. Summer for those dry, hazy days, the fresh breeze and the crops swaying in the fields. Autumn, when the leaves change colour and the landscape seems filled with so many different shades and Winter for those crispy mornings, log fires and chimneys with curling smoke. This may be cheating but I can’t just choose one!

What is the most memorable thing that has happened on one of your tours?

The magnificent seven – duckling rescue! On a late summer morning we had headed out through farmland on our Cotswolds Hidden Villages Tour. We never see much traffic but an amazing sight of seven ducklings waddling down the middle of the road completely oblivious to the minibus came into view. We joked even the wildlife like to take a country stroll every now and then! After photos had been taken I managed to encourage them up on to the verge, much to the delight of our visitors, because this was far more difficult than it sounds and off we went!

What is it you love about living in the Cotswolds?

I once read that it ‘takes a lifetime to explore the Cotswolds’ and I can completely understand why! To enjoy this region needs to be done at a gentle pace, some guests want to see the ‘famous’ locations and others want to visit villages only locals know about. When we started we had so many locations on our route that we wanted to share, but you need to be able to enjoy these areas, so we now have three tours, each one offering something different. I truly believe that it could take a lifetime to properly explore the region and I am up for the challenge, (although we do appreciate our guests don’t have that long) so having a local pick out the best bits makes the most of the time our guests have, and I just love being part of their holiday
